New Tools for Accessible Housing

Practical Guides for Property Managers

At Community Vision, we believe accessible housing should not be difficult to find, request, or secure. Yet too often, people with disabilities encounter barriers at every stage, from identifying available units to navigating unclear transfer processes.

To help address these challenges, we’ve developed a set of three practical guides designed to support property managers to utilize accessible housing more effectively.

Guide 3: A Practical Guide to Advertising, Matching, and Managing Accessible Housing

A big-picture framework for improving systems, policies, and practices over time.

How These Guides Can Help

Together, these guides provide both big-picture context and practical, day-to-day tools to improve how accessible units are:

  • Advertised to prospective tenants
  • Matched with people who need specific features
  • Managed through clear and fair policies

They are designed for real-world use, supporting property managers, leasing staff, and housing organizations in strengthening their practices without adding unnecessary complexity.

Why This Work Matters

Accessible housing units are an essential but often underutilized resource. Many housing providers want to do the right thing but lack clear, actionable guidance on how to:

  • Reach people who need accessible units
  • Communicate about accessibility in inclusive ways
  • Respond efficiently and fairly to accommodation requests

These guides were developed to meet that need. They are grounded in research, informed by lived experience, and shaped through collaboration with partners across the housing sector.
