The Standard is a valued supporter of Community Vision and a company committed to disability inclusion.
In 2023, The Standard scored 100% on the Disability Equality Index and was named a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” by the American Association of People with Disabilities, the nation’s largest disability rights organization, and Disability:IN, the global business disability inclusion network.
“We are very proud to be included in the 2023 Disability Equality Index and named a best place to work for disability inclusion for the second consecutive year,” said Susan Bruechner, vice president of Human Resources at The Standard. The Portland-based insurance and financial company employs more than 3,700 people across the U.S.
“Our company prioritizes creating a welcoming workplace where everyone can bring their authentic selves to work,” Bruechner said. “We know that diversity, equity, and inclusion are key for attracting and retaining the best employees, serving our customers and contributing to strong, resilient communities.”
The Standard has invested in the mission of Community Vision in several ways.
In 2017, The Standard Charitable Foundation awarded Community Vision a grant of $10,000 to help underwrite the construction of the Assistive Technology Lab.
In November 2023, The Standard showed their support of Community Vision by becoming an Empowerment sponsor of our Party for Possibilities.
Foon Lew, vice president and group actuary in Employee Benefits at The Standard, serves as a member-at-large on Community Vision’s Board of Directors. For the Party for Possibilities, he commented on the importance and impact of our work:
“The Standard supports Community Vision because CV is at the forefront of providing supported living services, housing, and employment assistance to people with disabilities in Oregon. It is inspiring to see CV help people with disabilities achieve the fullest of their abilities through assistive technologies and affordable housing support.”
We are grateful for the support of The Standard and for their commitment to inclusion for people with disabilities.
