Jennie’s Story
Jennie Sakamoto wanted to have her own apartment. She felt unhappy and isolated in her group housing situation. She was far away from the things that mattered to her most. Her situation needed to change. However, finding a new home was turning out to be hard.
Jennie got connected to Community Vision’s Housing Access Program. She took our tenant education class. Our Housing Access team then worked with her one-on-one. We learned about what she wanted in a potential apartment, where she wanted to live, and what she was able to afford. We assisted with the apartment search and application process. Eventually, Jennie was accepted for a one-bedroom apartment and moved in. It was a dream come true for her.
This fall, Jennie agreed to be part of a short video about her housing story and working with Community Vision. She invited us into her new home, located in one of Portland’s bustling neighborhoods. Her caregivers assisted Jennie with telling her story and sharing her joy.
